About

Webmaster/editor/deity: Richard McGlashan (RM)

Hello. My name is Rich, and I'm the person to blame for this site's existence. I like films.

I'll watch pretty much anything, but I'm not really a fan of romantic comedies in general. Or silent Soviet montage cinema from the 1920s, which obviously makes me a philistine.

Just so you know, that picture to the left is not me. It's Bruce Campbell. Because he's ace.

I started this website, way back in the hazy days of September 2006, because I enjoy writing film reviews and I thought I might as well put them online for others to read. It began as a lowly Geocities site (back when it existed!) before later becoming the Filmverdict.co.uk that we now know and love.

My writing has been published in the pages of Empire Magazine* and the Independent newspaper**. I also have Master's degree in film, but please don't hold that against me.

I couldn't tell you my number 1 favourite film, but some of my favourites are Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back, Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather trilogy and Back to the Future, to name but a few. All clichés, I know.

Some day I plan to win the lottery and an Oscar, but probably not at the same time.

I hope you enjoy the website - the fruit of many hours of hard labour, head scratching, blood, sweat and tears. And passion for movies, of course.

My reviewing philosophy: The reviews I write are meant to be no-nonsense, to the point and most importantly, my own personal opinion. They are not academic essays, and I try to avoid long-winded, waffly language as much as possible. Hopefully the reviews are informative while still being easy to read and understand. Any questions/comments are welcome!

*Well, on the letters page. Hey - it counts! Right? Right?
**That's the Manx Independent, by the way, a local newspaper on the Isle of Man. I was doing work experience there, and what I wrote wasn't film-related. But still...

Joel (AKA "The Nature Boy") is a regular cinema, DVD and Blu-ray reviewer for the site. While we do agree about many films, our opinions regularly differ so do not necessarily read one of Joel's reviews as reflective of my own thoughts! He cites The Godfather as his favourite film, and is an aficionado of 1970s Hollywood and the work of Martin Scorsese.
